Mr. Vastenhout,

We both know that this offer isn't quite what you are worth. As we discussed at the end of last season, we do not have the finances to be able to offer you your true value. We wanted to allow you to freely move on from us, not be tied down by your time with us, and to accept an offer from elsewhere in the league.

However, with the end of Free Agency fast approaching and your only offer being rescinded, we have decided to extend this offer to you.

We can not promise you a return as our starter, as in our offer to Mr. Delgado we did offer him starter. However, we can offer you consistent time from the bench, and should Tay not be able to hold his place as starter through performance, we will return you to the starting line.

We understand if you decide to pursue other options, but we would rather see you return here than to lapse into being a restricted free agent, or to send you off to retirement.
