Biography
Rully to his family and friends, ‘Ray’ to his coworkers, and Midnight to his teammates, Rully is the third child of second generation Indonesian immigrants born and raised in Miami Florida. While his mother worked as a bank teller, his father worked as a line cook at an Indonesian restaurant. While growing up, Rully’s parents strived to teach him a strong work ethic and that needed to stay in school. However Rully’s rebellious nature kept getting him into trouble. Or at least until he started to play basketball.
The sport helped keep the growing rooster focused and forced him to do better in school so he could keep playing. Rully’s increasing size made him a natural choice to be a center for his high school team. He’d use that size to his advantage, becoming more effective as a player. However it wasn’t long before he’d graduate, and rather than go onto college, Rully would get a job as a Station and facilities maintenance worker for the Tri-Rail with South Florida’s Regional Transportation Authority.
While he worked to help support his family, Rully never lost his interest in basketball. Eventually Rully started playing streetball with a group known as ‘The Freeway Fowlers’ due to the team being all avians, the basketball court being under a highway overpass, but also their rough and hard gameplay.
Fortunately for Rully, a sports agent had been scouting and watching various streetball teams, looking for basketball talent from unconventional sources. And while Rully seemed to be rather raw, the agent convinced the rooster that with some polishing and refining, he could be a serious player in the FBA.
