Anything can happen on draft night.

The FBA Draft has always been a very special time for the young aspiring furs begging to get the opportunity to hear their names called for a team that sees their potential. 2023 was no different. What happens after is what many people can assume to be celebrations from a variety of levels. From a big dinner with close friends and family, going to various clubs, or even gambling some of the newly acquired money they were given. Brandon was no different.

Brandon Baylor had the honor of being the second overall pick of this year's draft to the Las Vegas Wildcards. A team who was in the doorstep of going to the FBA finals. A team that decided to move on from one of their biggest contributors in Tyrone Gale to get that pick. Vegas was always known to make major gambles, and this was no exception. It left his Uncle Marcus speechless on the broadcast, and a lot of critics were ready to write up a plethora of claims on this move online.

It's Boom or Bust in Vegas with the Baylor Pick

Vegas are at it again…

Is Risking it all for Baylor Really the Move?

But Brandon could care less about any of that, he knew what he was from the get go and he was more than willing to shut people up once he got on the court. But that is a couple of months from now. Tonight was his night and no one was going to take that away from him.

Back in the hotel, Marcus was heading over to Brandon's room, dragging himself there as he stretched. He was woken up by multiple texts and calls from his brother, Bobby. All of them asking about his son's whereabouts. Once Marcus told him no, he told him to come over. While it was a bit annoying considering they both have work the next day, he can understand the situation considering the two's issues with each other. It didn't take long for the door to be open with ferocity after Marcus knocked on the door with Bobby on the other side with an extremely stern look on his face.

"Get in…"

Marcus grogginess went away quickly when he saw the glare his brother was giving. He almost thought he was the one in deep trouble. When walking into the room, he saw Bobby's wife, Brittany Baylor, who was sitting at the edge of the bed with a worried look. He then heard the door slam behind him as Bobby marched passed his younger brother, beginning to pace around in a fit if rage as he demanded, "Call him."

"Bob, I already called him twice on my way over," Marcus responded back. "Is everything alright?"

"I told him to call one of us at 1," Britt answered in a concerned voice. "It's almost 3 in the morning and-"

"He hasn't responded to any of us!" Bobby interrupted with an angry tone.

"Okay guys let's calm down for a moment," Marcus said. "Look I know it's a bit frustrating, but this is Draft night and we all know how wild this time of year can get. He may have lost track of time."

Bobby rubbed his eyes in annoyance before looking back over to his younger brother as he replied, "I get that, but every time we try to get him to do the simplest tasks he always does crap like this and I've just about had it with his damn attitude."

"You mean every time you try to get him to do things?"

Bobby gave him a look as he crossed his arms in displeasure. Marcus gave his older brother a glance and sighed as he continued. "I get it, you two haven't been the best of buds since he made this commitment to this. However, I think getting this riled up over him not picking up his phone is a bit much Bob."

"He isn't wrong…" Britt chimed in. "Honey I know you get riled up when he does it to me. I get it, don't get me wrong. Still I… think it's good to keep calm and talk to him once he gets here."

The older male groaned as he looked at the two of them. He then sat down and took a deep breath, "Maybe you guys are right… I just don't want him to do something to tarni-"

A click was heard from the door and the door quietly opened with a bit of giggling not just from one… but two furs who were walking in. That's when we see a male Calico Cat jump into the arms of a young polar bear with the cat's legs wrapped around his waist. It didn't take long for the two to notice the other bears who were staring at them with disapproval.

"Uh… maybe I should go," the Calico said after a moment of silence as he hopped off of Brandon.

"Yeah you should," Marcus said as he scratched the back of his head with an awkward smile.

The Calico chuckled nervously as he looked back at Brandon.

"It's all good. I'll text you later, yeah?"

"No he won't…" Bobby said in a bit of a stern voice.

The Calico nodded as he made a swift exit. As the door closed, the young polar looked over to his father who looked even more pissed than before.

"Where the hell have you been?!?!" The oldest male asked. "Do you know how what time it is?"

"I know, I know," Brandon said as he started to take off his messy blazer and finished unbuttoning his shirt that looked as if someone already started doing so. "I was just busy enjoying the first of many achievements as a star in the FBA."

"That's not a fucking excuse!" Bobby growled. "We've all tried calling your ass multiple times and you come waltz in here with somebody already wanting to suck your money dry!"

"Holy shit relax," Brandon said with a bit of annoyance. "My first time seeing you ever since you failed getting past the first round… again."

Bobby scoffed at that response, "Like you have accomplished anything at this point…"

"Uh hello? 2nd overall pick here just arrived~"

"Congrats, you're seen as the player with the 2nd most potential." Bobby replied. "But that is just the beginning, people are gonna expect everything out of you on day one. Any fuck up the Cards makes, you're the first to take the bullet. Think you can handle that?"

"Oh I know I can be an old man," Brandon answered with a cocky grin. "Unlike you, I know how to set expectations. Did it in high school, did it at BTU, and I know I can do it here. Anyone that doubts are just losers who only dream of being where I am, a bear that can take a team to the next level. Just like the one I'm looking at right now."

The two bears gave each other cold stares as the competiveness of the two flared up like a fire burning the thickest of ice. It didn't take long for Marcus to walk in between the two males before it escalated further.

"That's enough, both of you!" Marcus shouted as he lightly shoved the bigger bears. "Bobby I know he's getting to you, but you got to remember he's still a kid. Plus this is his night, we both know what it's like. When mine came around, you were so excited for me. You wanted to do everything you could to make sure I was one of those names called in the first round that year. The least you can do is show just a quarter of that support to your own son."

Bobby grunted and looked away for a moment, trying his best to calm himself down. Deep down he knew Marcus was right. Even if he was being an ass hole about it, it's still a major accomplishment for the young polar bear.

That's when Brandon smirked witnessing his father conceding. "Finally, someone is making sense around here.~"

That's when Marcus immediately turned his attention to him. The younger bear's ears tilted back as his entire demeanor changed when his Uncle began to speak.

"Don't even think that you're in the clear," Marcus growled. "Just because it's your night doesn't mean you have to throw your parents on the wayside, especially your mom. They shouldn't have to wake me up in the middle of the night because you haven't even bothered to contact either one when they asked you. They gave you this night to enjoy yourself in Vegas with whoever, all they asked is that you call them and say you're OK. That's it! Bobby is right that getting picked, especially as high as 2, puts a prime target on your back. You have to be careful with who you contact with from now on. This isn't college, it's the big leagues. So if you want to show that you can handle this, the bare minimum should be respecting your parents."

Brandon sulked a bit as he began to look away from his Uncle. "Sorry…"

Marcus took a deep breath of his own and saw Britt take a moment to sit down as well, thankful that they were able to calm down from Marcus' words. Brittany then spoke up as she puts her arm along Bobby's.

"Look, it's been a long night," she said in a soft voice. "We should all get some rest and get ready for tomorrow ok?"

The boys nod in agreement, it seemed that everyone was exhausted and ready to head off. However, as the parents were leaving, Bobby stopped for a moment and took one more breath before speaking.

"Congrats on making it to the FBA," He said before looking back at his son with one more stern look. "But you got a long way to go before even dreaming to get to where I am kiddo."

That's when everything became a blur for Brandon. The young bear roared heavily as he began to lunge at Bobby with rage. Marcus quickly did everything to hold him back, but unfortunately got caught in the crossfire as he got elbowed hard in the eye and his head bounced off a wall. After that Brandon looked back at his Uncle wobbling to the ground, his rage quickly switched to concern. However, before he could walk towards him, his mother pulled Brandon over to the bed while Bobby rushed over to aid his brother out of the room. Marcus looked over to Brandon a bit dazed as the young bear had nothing but distraught in his eyes from what he had done. He began to sob as the older males left the room.

After reaching the elevator, Bobby hastily took his phone out as he was ready to call for an ambulance. However, Marcus placed his paw top and shook his head.

"Don't call…"

"The hell do you mean Don't call?" Bobby asked in frustration. "You could have a fucking concussion right now."

"I don't care…" Marcus said. "The last thing I need is for everyone to ask questions as to what happened."

"Mark…"

"Don't fucking Mark me Bobby!" Marcus spat. "You know damn well why I can't go. It's already bad enough that Brandon is gonna have to sit with what he did, but I will not give those people more reasons to target him."

Bobby said nothing in response and sighs as he puts his phone away. That's when the elevator dinged and opened. When Bobby aided him into it, he looked back at his younger brother with concern. "Where to…"

"Just take me back to my room…" Marcus said softly as he groaned. "Ryan should probably be in there sleeping. I'll tell him I tripped and hit my head on something and I may have to call out for the second round."

The older bear nodded as he pressed the Button to his brother's floor. As they reached the room, Bobby knocked on the door and waited for Eastman to open the door.

"Not a word of what happened tonight. Not to anyone."

"Understood."
