Bobby Baylor is a retired FBA player that has played thirteen years and was one of the faces of the Alaska Arctics franchise. He was mainly known to be calm and collective towards his teammates and is a respected leader in the locker room. He took pride in being an Artic and he felt the entire state has a strong place in his heart ever since the day he was drafted in 2004. While his strongest desire was to bring Alaska their first ever championship in franchise history, he unfortunately was not able to do so as he chose to move on from the Arctics to the Seattle Summit in hopes to capture a title on a one year deal.

Part of one of the few storied sibling tandems in the FBA now, Baylor was extremely adamant in convincing the Arctics upper management to bring in his little brother Marcus 4 years after Bobby joined the team. So adament, in fact, that he threatened to walk from the team if his bro didn't get picked by the Arctics in the 2008-2009 draft. Luckily for the Arctics, Bobby's baby brother could ball, so it wasn't too difficult a decision. They even have jersey numbers that are reversed of the other's number. Bobby's is 42, Marcus's is 24.

Opinion on Marcus' Retirement

In 2015 when Marcus announced his retirement, Bobby was told the night of the Arctics elimination. When asked about his little brother, he admitted that he was upset when his brother told him that he was leaving the court for good, but after a few days he understood his reasons for his retirement.

"The shadow was too big to overcome for him," He said in an FSPN interview."It's tough to live up to standards around this league, and it was too much for him to handle. He knew after his contract is up, no one was gong to take the time to give him a look. Now he has opportunity to be a successful Baylor in a different way, and I support him fully."

Coaching Career

After a 5 year hiatus since quietly retiring from the FBA, Bobby Baylor was able to return to the league for the first time in his career as a head coach for the Edmonton Totems for the 2020-2021 season. With his knowledge and experience in a small ball playstyle, he's going to try and implement that system in the team as they start getting into a much needed rebuild for the Totems squad.

"We want to be seen as a team with more of a chip on our shoulders, many players with a lot of redemption stories on our squad. Our goal is to bring a lot of speed to this roster on both sides of the ball and show a lot of flexibility night in and night out."
