Biography
Dexter Patrice was born and given up by his birthmother for adoption, after which he landed in Camden, New Jersey at 15 months. Other than the records produced by his adoptive parents (Mike and Rachel McDougald – American badgers) at 16, he knows nothing about her – nor is there a true motivating interest in learning. Perhaps Dex’s advancement toward stardom in the FBA would shift that notion…
Regardless, Dexter felt his otherness the first time when he couldn’t overcome his learning disability, and in turn his parents were encouraged to enroll him in a variety of activities to improve his focus. Basketball, as it turned out, prevailed: there were clear intents and goals, and the game didn’t change the rules halfway through. Not only that, but his abnormally long legs (for a tapir, at least) made him natural at the athletic skill needed for the sport.
His family moved to the outer Jersey sububrb of New Brunswick in his Freshman year and he took his highschool team to State after a couple years on the squad. That helped him muscle his way to Edgerton University up in New Hampshire where he hoped to pursue Physical Education.
Other than a minor wrist injury in his non-dominant hand his Freshman year which only impacted his ability to step into the ranks, McDougald was a steadfast member for the team. He played alongside Holly-Ann Cotton for two years, and for one year after their ascension to the FBA in 2024-25. As “Rex and Dex”, Cotton’s preference to ‘leave the shooting to the guards’ gave the tapir plenty of opportunity to prove their range.
Off the court, McDougald runs regularly and has a long-term goal of completing a 5K in every state of the USA. He has one younger sister (per adoption), Bella, who wants his brother to investigate the impact sports leagues like the FBA have on the environment, much to his chagrin.
Playstyle
As an aggressive swing, McDougald worked to perfect the pick-and-roll passing needed to build a presence on the court. When given over 25 minutes a game, he could average about 14 points per game (.468 FG%, .343 3P%) with a season high of 24, and around 3 assists per game. In the FCAA Tournament, although they could never reach the upper echelons of it, McDougald’s value remained high after Cotton was drafted to the FBA and Edgerton continued to succeed.
The frame is there for an excellent shooter at the swing position, though McDougald remains unpolished. In crucial games he is prone to making mistakes, and he’s not the most explosive guard to come out of his draft. This was showcased in the FCAA Tournament game they ultimately lost in, passing an errant ball in the later moments of the loss.
