Biography
Holly may be shy, but that all changes on the court. Though it has taken a few years to come to that. Either way, Holly-Ann Cotton is not shy on the court. Hold on. Can we start again?
My name is Holly-Ann Cotton, and I’ve been a top FCAA center for 4 years straight. Since my freshman year I’ve been aiding Edgerton University through 4 years of March Madness. Making it to these games has been a dream-come-true, and though our team has never won the entire thing, I am glad to have made it to the second round in 2021 and 2023, the third round in 2022 and 2024.
I’m sure you’ve heard this one before, but since I was a kid, I have always been tall for my age. And like many before me, I was always self-conscious of my size. I grew up very quiet and shy. At least that’s what my mama always tells people. But on the court, when I really let go… I’m different. I mean, not literally, but my energy I guess feels stronger. And I love that feeling.
I’ve become an in-you-face kind of player I think because of this. And though I may not be as large as say Jack Baker, I’ve been told I might as well weigh as much as a t-rex. I have exercised in a fashion much like Emina Ferhatović (I love her routine!), minus the bodybuilding aspect. I’ve also made sure to keep my speed and endurance to standard. So, good luck knocking me over on the court! I have the strength to keep other bigfurs at bay. On top of that I have the height and jump to stop any opposing threat.
I remember when I first got on the court in my freshman year. I was terrified. But my coach shouted to me “get ‘em, rex,” and it was like a lightbulb going off. The look my opponent gave me whenever they failed a screen, or when they thought they had a clear line to the basket and there I was… I felt useful and proud. That is why I’ve stuck with basketball all these years. It is something I’m good at, and something I’m proud of, something my opponents have come to fear.
When I’m at the basket, defense and rebounds are my game. I have aided my team in offense and stopped my opponents on the defensive end. If you look at the games we’ve lost during March Madness, you will see we always lost within a single digit of points. That’s what I do. I am a wall, not easily knocked over. I’ll leave the shooting to the guards.
However, I have been working on a skill that may confuse you. When you think “center,” 3’s are nowhere on your mind, right? Though I may not stand up to other centers within the paint, you give me the ball as the shot clock winds down and I will do what no other center has done (figuratively speaking that is. I’ve seen other centers pull it off before and know that I’m exaggerating a bit…) Anyway…
When you see the name Holly-Ann Cotton, think 4-year FCAA top player with the strength and block range of a T-rex who also can shoot 3’s (please forgive my lack of close shooting. I promise I’ll work on that. Also, I will make sure my speed and endurance will be way above average as soon as possible…).
I just realized this was an “About Me” kind of paper and not my application into the FBA… And I’ve run out of time to edit this. So, please forgive the formatting!!!
Sincerely (do I write sincerely on these?) Holly-Ann Cotton
