Alaska Arctics @ Lorain Firestorm

Officials: Rocco Williams #18, Alex Trenor #7, Zack Lightfang #43 Player of the Game: Bill Bent (Armadillo, G) |
A heroic fourth quarter push by Rodger Umaechi (Husky, F) somehow managed to top the sensational performance he had all night this magical Christmas, but Bill Bent's (Armadillo, G) steady paws combined with Aisha Melbourne's (Mink, F) grace to keep the lead firmly on the home town side. Lorain fans got their 10th win of the season for Christmas.

Huntsville Mayors @ Biloxi Mudpuppies
Officials: Sal Muller #4, James McConnaugh #19, Frank Talum #9 Player of the Game: Bailey Brisbane (Catahoula Leopard Hound, G) |
One of the biggest games of the night, the Mayors battled it out in Crawdad Park in a game to determine supremacy of the Southern Division. The answer came early as rookie Nina Lime (Wolf, G/F) and sophomore Bailey Brisbane (Catahoula Leopard Hound, G) burst out in the first, demolishing the Biloxi starters. In the second, Steven Standard (Stoat, G) continued to dominate, defending Lucas Dupre (Red Fox, G) well while also drilling home his own series of three-pointers. The swamp ballers picked it up in the second half, but could not recover from the damage, losing the game by 16.
One thing Biloxi did win this Christmas-- Silas Rand (Squirrel, G) was sensational coming off the bench and easily won Dunk of the Night honors when he got over the reach of Nicky Brown (Cockatoo, F) and Oliver King (Goat, F) throwing it down between the two taller players. You can be sure Jackson Nuez (Squirrel, G/F) took notice.

Montana Howlers @ Dakota Bikers
Officials: Wesley Wasilowsky #41, Harry Botsa #27, Kio Splitzer #15 Player of the Game: Jack Wayans (Black Labrador, F) |
Two old rivals met on a cold Christmas night in Sturgis, with the Howlers fighting to hold on to the #1 spot in the Western Conference-- a role usually filled by the Bikers. In a defensive battle, Dakota never had total control of the court, but they did manage to hold off the Howlers assault, winning the game with excellent team work with everyone contributing. A champion performance from Gunther Klaus (Cougar, F/C) was supported on all sides by his team, but was not enough for victory-- still, even with the loss, the Howlers remain at the top of their conference.

Pittsburgh Keystones @ Tallahassee Typhoons
Officials: Pierre Laroche #21, Hoang Chen #37, Ciyde Liddell #26 Player of the Game: Edward Hudson (Coyote, F) |
A couple years ago, Franz Volker (Doberman, G) got a brand new Porsche as a Christmas present for beating the Huntsville Mayors. Maybe that's why his team was unstoppable tonight. The Typhoons looked weak at the start of the season and have gotten better over time. Tonight, they looked like they could have beaten the 1998 Mayors. The whole team was on fire, every player hitting his shots, every possession turning into points. A dominating 123 points was earned from firepower on all sides, with Edward Hudson (Coyote, F) leading his team in scoring dominance. A shame for the Keystones-- they played great this Christmas night. Just the Typhoons played better. A lot better.

Santa Ana Spectrums @ Bangor Tides
Officials: Diego Romero #3, Kasumi Katsuhito #2, Samantha Homestead #17 Player of the Game: Li Ho Fook (Red Panda, G) |
With their head coach gone and their team in shambles, no one in the betting pools was putting money on the Spectrums who played on the road against the rising Bantams, who have had their best start in franchise history. But in a Christmas miracle, Omar Pink (Saluki, F) and Li Ho Fook (Red Panda, G) tag-teamed a powerful midrange game to rack up the score. Toby Papanastasopoulos (Skunk, F) simply shut down Mika Ziggler (Otter, F/C) in one of the finest defensive performances of the night. And Karre Roark (Coyote, G) stepped up in a big way, giving much needed help to Monty Silverthorn (Pine Marten, G) and giving their team a huge road win this holiday night. Merry Christmas.

Officials: Natasha Giovanna #14, George Headstrom #8, Tiberius Crawford #25 Player of the Game: Ezra Rosenbaum (Lioness, G) |

INJURY: Unknown FBA Player - Quill punctures, Out for 1 game
Leave it to the Israeli to have the most focus on Christmas Day. Ezra Rosenbaum (Lioness, G) was totally dialed into her game tonight, delivering a virtuoso performance that nearly obliterated the usually reliable Samantha Anderson (Bunny, G). Wescot Yobia (Binturong, F/C) was outstanding both scoring from the floor and shutting down the usually dangerous Blanc Mange (White Wolf, F), but he could not save his team from a miserable 3rd quarter performance after Unknown FBA Player slipped and fell trying to block a shot and got stabbed by his own quills.

Williamsburg Minutemen @ Plymouth Taproots
Officials: Carmen Santoligo #39, Celia Strickland #28, Stevie Maxwell #33 Player of the Game: Dave New (Cat, F) |
On one hand, the idea that the struggling Taproots could ever defeat the #1 team in the league was laughable. On the other hand, it was predictable. While the Minutemen did show they were vulnerable in Friday's loss to the Mayors, they came at tonight with guns blazing, rookie Ain Iannizzi (Cougar, F) tearing up the first half along with a nearly staggering performance from bench player Eleanor Rigby (Deer, G). On the other hand, Dave New (Cat, F) came to the game supremely drunk, having just come from a friend's Christmas party. And as the old veteran has shown, when he's smashed and high on catnip, he becomes unstoppable. He was incredible tonight, hitting contested shots from all over the floor. In a moment that's pure Dave New, he was fouled on a 3-point attempt by Damien Nathaniel (Hyena, F). After the whistle blew, the ball swished through the hoop to a big cheer from the crowd. New then high-fived the audience members on the floor seats before taking a cup of beer from one and taking a drink.

Winnipeg Voyageurs @ Des Moines Blanks
Officials: Lucinda Anthony #31, Aurora Mambaro #30, Dimitra Kyriakov #34 Player of the Game: Christopher Zwischenberger (Tabby Cat, F) |
The biggest miracle of Christmas night happened in Des Moines. When Bruce Bounder (Hare, G) hit his final shot in regulation, the 3 point lead with only 1 second on the clock seemed to guarantee victory. But in a staggering play, Christopher Zwischenberger (Tabby Cat, F) took a half court desperation heave as the clock ran out-- and banked it in off the back board. The crowd erupted as the Blanks forced overtime, then erupted louder when they won the game by 4, with Eve Pasillas (American Crocodile, F/C) blocking the final Winnipeg shot and Unknown FBA Player drilling home the final bucket.
And that's a swish.
