N'duk Hunter (Born Winter, 1983-1984?)is a Kenyan citizen currently residing in the United States of America and is a professional basketball player with the Santa Ana Spectrums in the Southwestern Division of the Western Conference of the FBA. His species is banded mongoose.

Biography

Born and raised in a small village south of Narok, Kenya, Hunter grew up in a tribal lifestyle, earning the title of hunter, for which he is named. Little else is known about his past, and there are no records of a basketball career at that time. In 2006, he fled his native Kenya and emigrated to the United States under a refugee status visa, citing the reason of tribal warfare. He lived in New York City for what is estimated to be a year and a half, being homeless much of that time. He states helearned basketball in some of the toughest street courts in the Bronx, which he credits for his aggressive style of play to this day. He was once arrested for assault after breaking a wolf's jaw with a punch while on the court, but CCTV footage cleared him, showing it was an act of self-defense. He has worked his way across the United States since, eventually winding up in California, where Stanislaus Thrust superstar Mitchell Redding ran into him and discovered his skills on the court. According to sources, Redding alerted new Spectrums coach, Jackson Price to the mongoose's talent, and from that, Price selected him in the second round of the 2010 FBA Draft.

Education

No record exists of Hunter ever attending any form of school. He credits the New York Public Library for teaching him English, as well as how to read.

FBA Career

A Risky Gamble

Based solely on the word of Mitchell Redding, Spectrums head coach Jackson Price selected Hunter as the team's second round draft pick in the 2010 FBA draft, having never actually seen the mongoose play.

The Strong, Silent Type

Price's gamble appeared to have paid off as Hunter took to his new role as bench shooting guard, and in his first few weeks he seriously outperformed current SAS starter Sandy DiTullio. Price was so impressed, he moved Hunter into the starting position, where he remains to this day. However, while Hunter's savage, aggressive and almost thoroughly unrefined style of play make him a standout on the court, he seldom gives interviews, and his replies remain strictly confined to the game when he does.

Team Player

Despite a strong showing in his first few weeks, Hunter adapted from his usual one-man-show style he learned on the streets to fit Price's vision of one unified team. While his personal points per game have decreased, his assists and rebounds have increased, a factor attributed to the Spectrums recent improvements.

Charity

While only still in his rookie year, N'duk Hunter has shown an enormously charitable side to himself, especially during Christmas of 2010, where he donated $40,000 for food, clothing and medical care to the homeless and needy of Santa Ana, even serving food at the Santa Ana Males Mission on Christmas Day. When asked why he had put on an apron and helped serve, his answer was only, "Because until a few months ago, I was one of these men." He continues to be active in fundraisers and benefit organizations for the needy.

Personal Life

Hunter resides in Santa Ana, with a 2010 Land Rover Defender 90 registered under his name. Often seen at the local park shooting hoops and continuing to play street ball, it is presumed that he is not currently involved in a relationship. Greater family status is unknown.

Injuries

  • 1/17/11 - RMY @ SAS - Hunter was elbowed in the face accidentally by Gary Ridge (Otter, G/F), breaking his nose early in the second quarter. Hunter walked off court, was cleaned up, but returned later that quarter and played into the third with a bloodstained muzzle. After the game he was taken to the hospital so that his nose could be re-set and was fitted with a partial muzzle mask guard for the next several games.
  • 2/11 - Seen with a prominent black eye and split lip for several games. Teammate Justin Destrier (Stallion, C) also seen with similar injuries at same time. Cause unknown.
  • 4/2/11 - STA @ SAS - Seen with scuffed and bloodied knuckles and bandage on right forearm. Cause unknown.

Uniform Modification

On April second, 2011, Hunter was granted a special dispensation from the FBA Commission to modify his existing uniform. A band of fabric consisting of red and ivory triangles tessalated along its length has been sewn around the left arm-hole of both his home and away jerseys. The dispensation was granted to reflect a confirmed change in Hunter's tribal status, and in an effort to show cultural sensitivity by the FBA Commission.
