Biography

During a simple non-descript routine day in mid-summer of 2000, a female adult coydog screamed and an old light blue 1967 pick-up truck with a bed filled with crates of avocados braked to an abrupt stop. Approximately fifty minutes later, surrounded by her exhausted mother and father and three other pickers that were nearby the truck when they were working amid the avocado orchards, Gwen Hass was born. For the next twenty years, Gwen’s life seemed destined to follow the footsteps of her family’s lifelong dedication to the green fruit; she was born amid avocados, she grew up amid avocados, and might grow old among avocados. That would’ve been her fate indeed if it weren’t for the fact she became enamored with a non-edible and much more spherical object: the basketball.

While attending high school in Oxnard, California, she was involved with not just the school’s agricultural club but also the school’s basketball team since her freshman year. She stayed on the team for the entirety of her high school years, and became the team leading scorer in her junior and senior years. However her parents looked down at the sport, always dismissing it as just a hobby for Gwen while her true destiny lies with the succulent green fruit that has many many culinary uses. They tried everything they can to groom Gwen to follow in their footsteps and live out her entire life within the avocado orchards. “Respect the avocado,” they would ingrain the message into their daughter’s mind. “Worship it for our own financial lives depend on it. Nourish it and we can grow with it.”

Despite their efforts however, Gwen continued to treat basketball seriously and continued to train the basics for the sport. She received multiple scholarships to play basketball in college and eventually she chose to attend Furniversity of Channel Islands, several hours away from home. Although her team was good enough to reach the Division-II tournament for two years, her parents kept insisting that she focus more on the orchards than the sport.

Then one night she had a dream. In the dream, she was screaming for help as the avocado trees around her began to quickly shrivel and die, and worthless avocados fell from the trees to land near her feet. The trees seemingly spoke to her. “Save the Avocado. Become Our Princess and Savior. Your orchards will die within five years if you do nothing. Save us.” Then she woke up from the nightmare. For a while she dismissed it but she overheard her parents lamenting about financial problems on the orchards, and claimed that they would have to sell the property if they don’t save it within five years at their current rate. That’s when Gwen realized that in order to save the property, she would need the money to keep the orchards going… and so she decided to declare for the FBA Draft after just two years of college.

According to basketball scouts, her primary strength relies on free throw shooting accuracy, passing ability, and three-point shooting. However she does not have enough endurance to warrant keeping up with many of her teammates, and thus would be preferred to be a solid backup player until she can improve later in the future.
