Great Lakes Mammalia
Great Lakes Mammalia is a university in Toledo, OH. Established in 1913, this higher learning facility houses an average of 21,450 students a year. They maintain a Division I level athletic program, which includes sports such as baseball, basketball, football and volleyball.
History
Though traditionally a Mammals Only school from its inception until 1940, GLM now does not enforce any species limitations on its student applicants. Though due to extra scholarships handed out to mammals, as well as its student body currently being 79% mammalian, it remains a largely mammal-specific university.
Sports
The biggest rival school to GLM by far is Lake Erie Anthro Institute, whose teams have been clashing ferociously in all its sports since LEAI was founded in 1917 as an alternative place for higher education for non-mammalian furs. The two colleges' heyday was in the 1970's, when they met in the FCAA Final Four 5 times (with GLM taking each contest but the last, in 1979). Nowadays both institutions lack the funding to compete with most top DivI programs, and most top prospects shy away from attending the schools in favor of more well-known universities.
FBA
While most of its athletes who've made it to the pros do so with baseball, there have been a handful of FBA players who hailed from GLM. However, the last player to be drafted to the FBA out of Great Lakes Mammalia was Peter Bronson (Elk, C) in 1996. The last player from GLM to make an All-Star team in the FBA was Lucas Higginbotham (Coyote, F), who was drafted in the 2nd round in 1980 and who made the All-Star team in '83, '84, and '85. He was also instrumental in the Baltimore Spirits' championships in '83 and '84.
