Biography

Born in Guadalajara, Mexico, Ciro Rosales came into the world as Mateo Rosales. His parents had met at work and been in relations on and off for years leading up to their eventual marriage in Mexico. As soon as Mateo was born, the ocelot’s parents looked to better their careers to help better provide for the new expenses of a child. The family only spent a year in their Native Country before Mateo’s father accepted a job offer in the United States. His father, half-mexican, was now taking them to his birth state of California; Los Angeles to be exact.

L.A. was where the young Ocelot would be brought up. His family was upper middle class so Mateo grew up comfortably. However, no matter what kind of neighborhood they lived in, they were still in L.A. where gangs were prominent. Even Hollywood, where all the stars lived, was not untouchable. But his parents knew this and did their best to never let any of it come near them. Mateo excelled in school. Seeing his parents thrive, especially his mother who started off life poor, it was all an inspiration to him. At a young age, Mateo was an A student, an avid community volunteer - to all, it seemed like he would grow up to be someone. He was already paving a perfect path and his parents were convinced he was on a golden road.

Unbeknownst to them, their perfect little angel wasn’t as holy as they thought.

It had been one day after school when Mateo was on the basketball courts outside of school. Usually, the ocelot had a group of friends he played with. The sport was something he’d gotten into in the past year, and, while new to the game, he had already convinced his friends they could make an unbeatable team. However, today was different. His friends had acted uncharacteristically; each making up an excuse for why they couldn’t join him in their usual game today. Mateo wasn’t one to pry, though, and had decided to head to the court by himself. He was only 10 minutes into playing, the court for some reason being clear that day, when he was approached by a group of mixed furs. Most were adults, but some looked to be teenagers as well. The group in front of him was none other than the Los Angeles natives; 18th street gang.

Much to his surprise, the group only wanted to talk to him. However, they seemed to be able to push his buttons perfectly, convincing him that he didn’t have to be the perfect child that his parents wanted him to be with them. Combined with his raw curiosity, what happened next was a bad fork in the road for him; he joined the gang.

Of course, the ocelot hid this new life decision from his parents. To himself, the gang was just another form of friends or family to him. As long as he kept his grades up, his parents would have no complaints. Even when he came home late, he was just helping others study, studying himself, or volunteering. It was all okay. Everything was okay. Even when he got initiated - it was just an unfortunate jumping that occured. But eventually the jig would be up. One thing kept leading to another, and by the time he was in high school, he’d ended up in California’s Division of Juvenile Justice until 18, although with the possibility of appeals or probation. The judge could only hope that it would be enough to make the young feline think about the consequences of, not only his actions, but his choice in associations.

Before he knew it, two years had already passed. Mateo had been on good behavior, even despite his known 18th street association inside Juvie. Mat was due for his annual case review and this time would be granted probation. As soon as it was over, he and his family packed up and left not only L.A., but the state as a whole. His parents refused to risk the gang contacting him or finding him.

They moved all the way across the United States to settle in Virginia. On his 18th birthday, Mateo legally changed his name to Ciro. Even despite a newly changed home and name change, his juvenile charges still followed him and he found it hindered his access to education and employment. Unable to find a job that was close to home, Ciro instead decided to dedicate himself to being a full-time student. Thankfully, Ciro still had the same educational work ethic he had when he excelled back in California. He joined the local community college where he would become a business major and also dabble in architecture. However, what really thrilled him was his chance to play basketball again. Of course he had played while in Juvie, but it was rough and untamed. Finally he could get back into the game in its set rules, in all its seriousness. While in Juvie, he had grown past his 6’0 height from his early years, and, at 20, reached a full height of 7’2.

Getting his associates at his community college moved him to leave home for another university to get his bachelors. Not only did he want a bachelors, he also wanted to pursue a great basketball division. He did his research and, not wanting to be too far from home, decided to apply to a known FCAA college: New York Carnivore/Predator University.

At the carnivore only school, he found that basketball still actually worked for him, to the point that he was able to break into the team, and eventually take the starting center position in his final year of college. His coach and his parents were pleasantly surprised at his talent for the game, and would come to encourage him to try out for the FBA after he graduated.

Despite all that, he never went out of his way to get into the limelight, avoiding reporters at all costs. Unfortunately, this was mostly due to his fear of his past being exposed. The ghosts of his association with 18th street still followed him in his tattoos - though covered up when not at home. He would often have nightmares of some of the more dangerous situations he was thrust into while in the gang. His body, most prominently his torso, was covered in scars. He always had reminders of his past.

However, with degrees under his belt, and a newfound fire to join the FBA, Ciro will give everything he has to make something out of the 2nd chance he was granted. This time around, he would make not only himself proud, but his parents, who he had put through so much, even prouder.
