2016 FBA Season/15.12.21/BAL@HWI/Capsule
The Hawaii Kahunas just can't seem to lose as they were able beat the Spirits in an overtime thriller by 3. Right now, this is the most impressive win up to date as they were able to come from behind a 15 point deficit in the fourth quarter to have this game take a little extra time to decide the winner. At the end of the night, it was Julian Cross-Kiraly (Saluki, G) that was able to close the game with a three from the corner, thus continuing the amazing run the team from the islands are making.
As impressive as the shot was, the real super fur in this game was the fantastic play from Zack Tate (Zorilla, C). Honestly, "Fantastic Play" is a major understatement from how the zorilla had one of the best, if not the best, games in his young career. He was able to be the first fur of the season to earn a triple double with 19 points, 10 rebounds, and 10 blocks!!! Let me repeat that: TEN BLOCKS!!! If there was anything to prove that Hawaii has it good with obtaining Tate, tonight's game would be it. Right now they're proving to have the best PF/C combo with Tate and Scoonie Barrett (Otter, F/C), who also had an amazing game with a double double of his own (21 pts and 11 rbs). The Kahunas are looking more and more dangerous as the season continues. There might be a good chance they'll be undefeated when December closes.
The Baltimore Spirits was very, very close to make the biggest upset of the season so far, but it just wasn't enough. However, they shouldn't treat this as that bad of a loss. The bench was brought completely to life as Sarah Michelle Dunbar (Mountain Hare, G) had the best game in the young season so far, scoring 16 points coming off the bench with impressive shooting behind the line making 3/5. Damian Williams (Dark Wolf, G/F) and Eldred Darragh (Black Shuck, F/C) also had solid games as well. However, they have to finish strong if they don't want to let games like this slip away from their grasps. For now, the loss should be a little more bitter sweet for the Spirits.
The Kahunas will have their Christmas break early and they will defend their undefeated record against the current champions and biggest rival, the Santa Ana Spectrums on Dec. 26th. While the Spirits will hope to get the same performance, but a different result as they have another challenging foe in the Seattle Summit to visit them. -Marcus Baylor
