Biography
When it comes to family… one doesn’t always understand the amount of pressure that can come from living up to expectations. It often doesn’t hit as hard as some people would like to believe.
Shuggy disagrees.
Growing up as the younger sibling of two Red Panda boys to a lucky family located in Scotland, the smaller Shuggy always felt Chip, his older brother’s shadow loom over him ever since they were kids. Overall being much more of an asset in everything he noticed, it was harder and harder to ignore. Not that he had a bad childhood or that his family picked favorites, not at all! But to a younger brother who sees the success his older sibling has in life and feeling this unneeded need to validate his own worth sucked. It sucked a lot. Sucked so much to the point where it was difficult for him to see his accomplishments play out and always want more.
There was always something about… Chip and his dad bonding over pro wrestling that disturbed him. Nothing against it, but… how his dad was so proud of him when his brother announced he would try going pro just… twisted his face into a glaring scowl. He remembered looking down, trying to think… think of something he could do that would measure up to his brother in some way, so that his dad and the rest of his family would take that kind of pride in him as well.
And it hit him, upon helping his team win the championships at basketball for his school.
Up until that point, the sport was just a hobby. But upon winning MVP and holding up that trophy?
It finally dawned on him. THIS. This was something he could be perfect at.
From that point on into the following years of high school, Shuggy dedicated all of his time into developing his game. Whenever he wasn’t sleeping, doing homework, or helping around the house, that basketball he had was in his hands and he practiced over and over Working on his ball handling, perfecting his drives, and anything else he could think off, he finally started to smile and feel his self-worth improve-
And then he heard that Chip, only at age 23, was a multi-timed champion and had brought home so much money to help support his family. The insecurities, doubt, and… ugly jealousy began to devour him from the inside out as he pushed himself harder.
All he needed was to go pro. That’s how he could prove himself, right?
So when his brother offered to help pay for his acceptance fee into college to get him into the states and have a chance at the FBA… he wasn’t turning it down.
He was going. He had to.
He had to succeed. He wasn’t going to be a failure and prove he was nothing to the family.
This is it. It’s basketball or nothing.
