Biography
Raised by a single mother, Jesse often found himself embroiled in the troublemaking around town. After his absentee father abandoned his family when Jesse was only five years old, Jesse began lashing out, taking his anger out on those around him.
Often he found himself in trouble at school, even developing a reputation despite being a freshman in. Tall for his age he was more than willing to start a fight with juniors and seniors who he thought disrespected him or his friends and with how often he cut class, usually to go play basketball at the park, it was questionable if he would even graduate high school.
For most of his childhood he felt as though he was just drifting, no real purpose or motivation to push himself forward. When his aunt came to pick him up from school early one day that all changed. His mother had a heart attack while at work and was in the hospital recovering. The only person in his life that did not see him as a screw up, who understood the anger he lived with, had nearly died. She would be alright in the end, but Jesse knew she was working herself to death.
Nearly losing his mother finally sparked something in the young honey badger. He had to make something of himself so he could take care of her. Once she was discharged Jesse would consult with his guidance counselor, gritting his teeth at the shocked expression they gave when Jesse asked what he would need to do to make it to college.
Given his poor grades his only real hope was some kind of athletic scholarship. Basketball was the natural choice given all the times he had cut class just to hang around the courts, but he had to contend with the hard-nosed basketball coach. The bear made it clear that there would be consequences should Jesse step out of line.
Attending classes was easy enough despite the boredom he would have to endure, but keeping his anger in check was the biggest challenge. The next altercation he got in after being taunted resulted in the badger running sprint drills everyday for a week until his legs gave out. Punishments would increase with each incident so it did not take long for Jesse to reign in and redirect his anger, it certainly helped that their weight room had a punching bag he could go to town on.
College Career ---
Despite respectable production, his poor academics and late entry into high school basketball meant it was no surprise the badger received no interest from D1 programs. Instead Jesse went the junior college (juco) route, playing for two seasons at Amarillo College while earning an associates degree in business management. During his time there his physical playstyle under the basket at both ends of the court garnered attention from scouts. This was the moment he realized he could possibly go further than just getting a degree to earn enough money to take care of his mom, but to make enough to make so she would never have to worry again.
