Biography

Whoever came up with the concept that Alaskan Malamutes, by breed, have a tendency not to bark didn't send that memo to Washington-born Rachel Barsky. Earning the nickname "Barks" by her high school coach, Rachel manages to draw attention to herself on the court by constantly barking out plays and calls of encouragement to her teammates. As a joke, she was awarded a muzzle by her coach during the last game of her high school career which, to this day, she always keeps in her gym bag. She graduated Stanford University with a dual degree in sociology and communication.

While Rachel is a talented player, she is more known for her endurance rather than her speed. She is able to play for longer periods of time, but she is not very agile. She is able to make up for it with her shooting skills. However, she would be willing to go for agility training if a future coach recommends it. A sweet, enthusiastic player with a slight competitive streak when the heat's turned up, Rachel Barsky would be a great asset to any team in the FBA.

2013 Free Agency

Following her 2013 Most Improved Player award, Rachel went into free agency and received 4 contract offers from the San Jose Thrust, Pittsburgh Keystones, Bangor Tides and Montana Howlers. She chose the contract with the Bangor Tides, switching teams and moving to the Eastern Conference.

Reportedly her decision was based on disapproval of changes in the Howlers roster, most prominently replacing 2013 Most Valuable Player Shane Rufus (Red Wolf, G) with Wendy Brown (Saber-toothed Tiger, G). Concerned about the new point guard's arrogant attitude, she also appreciated the opportunity to play with Lucas Dupre (Red Fox, G), recently signed with the team.
