From High Tides to Low Tides: 2011-2013
In an effort to bring the Bantams stateside, owner Kata'lina DuBois had partnered with the city of Bangor into renovating a small campus of buildings into an athletic center with Shawshank Stadium as its focal point. Construction was completed by the end of the 2010-2011 season, allowing her team enough time during the 2011 off-season to transition to their new home. Xander Knight, the general manager at the time, drew support from the local community to help promote the team. It was a successful venture that saw the franchise qualify for the post-season for the first time since entering the league. Unfortunately, they were swept out in the first round of the 2012 FBA Playoffs by an unforgiving Newark Pride squad that had dominated the division for most of the season.
The next season looked promising for the young club, but problems in upper management saw the team's outlook grow sour. Despite a strong start, the team was banned from the 2013 FBA Playoffs in mid-January due to salary cap violations. With fingers pointing all over the place, it was no surprise that Knight had mysteriously disappeared from his position. The aftermath saw the Tides hire Chip Fury as their new GM, and he set to work on dismantling the roster to free up cap space. This included controversial moves such as trading away popular players for expiring contracts, as well as the off-season decision to trade away the #3 draft pick in a loaded 2013 draft.
The tonkinese cat's philosophy was to rebuild via free agency, and he was aggressive in the off-season, signing free agents Lucas Dupre ($175 million max contract), Omar Pink, Rachel Barsky, Alejandro Perez, and Constantine Jones. Fury quickly gained a reputation within the league for his aggressive and brash nature, eventually catching of the ire of team ownership. After a relatively slow start to the 2013-2014 season, another front office disagreement over the direction of the team led to Fury's resignation only 18 games into the season.
Change, Change, Change: 2014-present
Frustrated by her lack of control over the team, Kata'lina chose to accept an offer she had been given earlier in the year and sold her shares in the franchise. On December 22, 2013, ownership of the team was transferred to Louisiana-based entertainment firm Magnolia Parks & Entertainment for an undisclosed amount. The company tapped Wyoming Rangers general manager Wesley Romero to fill the vacant GM position on January 30th, 2014.
On October 17, 2014, it was announced that Lorcan Donegan, a former FBA player (Lorain Firestorm 1977-1981, Tucson Demons 1981-1988) and most recent Head Coach of Maine Interspecies College, would assume the head coach position of the Tides. His tenure lasted just the one season, the team parting ways with the horse after their elimination in the first round of the 2015 playoffs.
